Typography should convey meaning and a feeling through text. The goal of this project was to choose one or two quotes by one or two famous designers, and create two typographic poster compositions of the quote(s). We were to study the designers and represent their style and influences through our designs, while also conveying the meaning of their quote.

I chose to study Armin Hofmann and Neville Brody. For the Armin Hofmann poster, I wanted to do a very simple composition that had a very clear and strong grid system since he is a very prominant Swiss designer. I used large contrasts of large and small type in order to reflect some of Armin Hofmann’s previous designs. In some of his previous compositions, I noticed a use of grain and knockouts, which really interested me.
For the Neville Brody poster, I wanted to convey a punk feeling, due to Brody’s huge contribution to the Punk style. I used a spray paint stencil design in order to give the poster a grunge feeling. The stencil lettering is also reminiscent of some of Brody’s lettering, but with added texture. I feel as though the design of the psoter itself contributes to the meaning of the quote itself.
